Two more factors about Shimmering Pond from home - by Ngoc&Joe

Echoes of the success of Shimmering Pond from Home exhibit have been disseminated widely by the media, and a chorus of congratulations from friends and families has been sung beyond California. Already, there have been talks about future collaboration among these gifted artists, inside and outside of Vietnam. Wonderful news for us all!

However, there are two quiet factors, worthy of mention. First is about Vinh’s care for the environment in his conscious effort to use materials that conserve valuable natural resources in Vietnam. A case in point is the use of MDF, Medium-Density Fiber (a type of plywood), instead of raw wood. Another is the use of polymer resin, instead of bronze (a fact that was not reported accurately by some newspapers for lack of understanding). Second is the concern for workers—in Homeflowers factory in Viet Nam—who materialize Vinh’s creative designs, a fact mentioned by chi Doan Cam Lien - chief of Homeflowers in Vietnam, in her latest email on informing these workers about increasing production for DV Gallery. We need to express our thanks to these workers, because after all, without their quiet hard work, how could we continue to enjoy the beauty of these products? I do hope their efforts continue to be recognized and rewarded adequately.

Someone (in one of these news reports) applauded this exhibit as representation of a “new generation” of artists. Indeed, but more than that: it is the conscious effort of artists like 6 Vinh who has successfully combined his love for creative arts and his family’s concerns for the environment and workers, two equally important assets that sustain arts for generations to appreciate.

Tiếng vang về triển lãm Ao Nhà Lung Linh của 6 Vinh đầu tầu - lộng lẫy, đa dạng, phong phú, thành công - đã được giới truyền thông loan tải rộng rãi và mọi người hoan hỉ chúc mừng, trong và ngoài California. Đã bắt đầu có những chuẩn bị cộng tác và hỗ trợ giữa các nghệ sĩ trong và ngoài Việt Nam, thật đáng mừng! Tuy nhiên có hai quan tâm thầm lặng chưa ai nhắc đến: thứ nhất là về môi sinh/môi trường, thứ nhì là về các anh chị công nhân trong xưởng Homeflowers ở Việt Nam.

Hôm nọ nói chuyên với 6 Vinh, Ngọc Joe rất mừng vì 6 Vinh quan tâm đến môi sinh và dùng MDF, Medium-Density Fiber, một loại vật liệu tiết kiệm tài nguyên thiên nhiên: gỗ. Còn vài nguyên vật liệu khác 6 Vinh dùng, như polymer resin, cũng tiết kiệm tài nguyên thiên nhiên (như bronze. Điều này có báo đăng tải không chính xác vì không hiểu rõ).

Thứ hai, quan tâm đến "các em công nhân" trong xưởng Homeflowers ở Việt Nam được chị Doãn Cẩm Liên, Sếp ở Việt Nam, nhắc đến trong một email gần đây về việc tăng gia sản xuất trong tương lai gần. Đây là một điều đáng khen ngợi : nếu không có những người thợ thầm lặng thực hiện những ý tưởng sáng tạo độc đáo của 6 Vinh thì làm sao chúng ta bên hải ngoại có được những hoạ phẩm làm đẹp cho đời như thế này? Mong họ được tiếp tục quan tâm về điều kiện làm việc và lương thưởng xứng đáng.

Ai đó (trong một bài báo) có nói cuộc triển lãm này thể hiện sự sáng tạo của một thế hệ mới (new generation). Đúng, nhưng không chỉ tôn vinh nghệ thuật, mà thế hệ mới, như 6 Vinh, đã kết hợp nghệ thuật với hai yếu tố thầm lặng nhưng vô cùng quan trọng cho sự phát triển lâu dài của nhiều thế hệ sau : con người và thiên nhiên.
