DO WELL AND FEAR NOT

Maastricht is preparing for the celebration of the 55th Procession of Holy Relics that takes place every seven years. This religious tradition originates from the fourteenth century and still endures in the hearts of many Maastricht locals.

During this period, the city will organize cultural activities, pilgrimages, celebrations, and processions. There is a lot to see during the processions, such as relics from St. Servatius’ treasure chamber, members of the clergy, and bands.

The highlight is without a doubt the chest reliquary (Noodkist), Maastricht's most valued possession. The theme of this Procession of Holy Relics is ‘Do right and fear not’. This theme can be felt throughout the city. If everyone is charitable towards others in their surroundings, the world will be a better place. In this way, step by step, we can build a culture based on human interactions and meetings.
