HISTORICAL NOTE -Hetty Green (1834-1916)

Have you heard the tongue-in-cheek advice for making a fortune in the stock market that goes something like "Buy low, sell high?" The phrase is adapted from a comment made by Hetty Green (1834-1916), who was also known as the Witch of Wall Street. She turned a $1 million inheritance into $ 100 million and became the richest wowman in the world. In today's terms, that $ 100 million would be worth over $2 billion. When asked how she became so successful, she replied, "There is no secret in forne making. All you have to do is buy cheap and sell dear, act with thrift and shrewdness, and be persistent.
