... rồi lang thang xem người ta chuẩn bị Carnival.

From Sunday 10^th until Tuesday 12^th February 2013, the carnivals city of the Netherlands Maastricht,  is bustling. For three days, the ‘prince of the mad’ Prince Carnival with his entourage and his crazy protocol, takes the lead in all the carnival festivities and all the people who celebrate ‘vasteloavend’ come together. Since 11^th November, people are looking forward to carnival and they already start making costumes, materials and carnival floats for the ‘Boonte Störrem’, which is the parade on the streets.

Carnival in Maastricht means lots of attention and devotion for costume making (‘pekskes’) and make-up. All sections of the Maastricht inhabitants show their most creative side during carnival. The most beautiful creations can be admired by everyone on the streets or they can be seen in the parade.

Since the Maastricht carnival, according to the Rijnland tradition, takes place outside on the streets, the whole city is decorated in the three official colours of carnival; red, yellow and green. In addition, ‘Zate Hermeniekes’ and ‘Joekskapellen’ (amateur marching bands) play on almost every corner of the streets, creating a nice atmosphere.
