A collection of haikus (three-line Japanese poem) dedicated to Doãn Quốc Sỹ — my Ông Nội — reflecting memories from the time I lived with him.
Ông Nội’s favorite drink *
Candy soaked in milk
Vibrant colors peek through white
Normal day turned sweet.
Ông Nội’s hobby
Worn-out chains rattle
Round wheels embrace the pavement
Adventure awaits.
Ông Nội’s passion
Faint sounds of scribbles
Pen dances across paper
Fleeting thoughts in ink.
By Doãn Đan Anh (con Vịt)
* Ông Nội had a charming habit: whenever he wanted to satisfy his sweet tooth, he
would drop a lollipop into a cold glass of milk and sip it throughout the day. As the day
went on, the lollipop slowly dissolved, infusing the milk with its sweetness.
